Into the clouds

Who hasn't been looking at the clouds as a child and been fantanizing about the figures you see. Sometimes I sit on a bench staring at the clouds drifting past and recognize a face, a human figure or an animal.

Now I have delved into it a bit more. First because it was necessary for my pilot's license, which required cloud knowledge, and later just for my pleasure. In the meantime I have also discovered The Cloud Appreciation Society, where cloud lovers can indulge themselves. Even if you are not a cloud hunter, the site is very worthwhile.

Clouds on postage stamps are common, but mostly as a background. It's not about the clouds themselves. Fortunately, the Belgian post has changed that today with no fewer than five new stamps. The stamps are issued in a sheet of ten stamps; every stamps twice.

Fortunately, Belgium is not the first country to pay attention to clouds. Germany, for example, issued two beautiful cloud stamps last year. With a little further searching you will also come across other countries that have paid specific attention to clouds.

But if you want to start collecting clouds on stamps, which stamps will you collect? All stamps with a cloud on them? Or only those stamps that specifically pay attention to clouds, such as this Belgian sheet? And what is the first stamp that names a cloud? I'm not behind on that yet. The great thing about philately is, of course, that you can come up with your own ideas. Whatever you prefer is collectible.
